The University of Kansas Medical Center
IGPBS Student - 1st Year
Graduate student by day, mother by night.
Current graduate student in the IGPBS program at The University of Kansas Medical Center pursuing a Ph.D in biomedical science. I have an overall interest in protein science but have not determined in which field I want to study them! I have a background in Biochemistry but during my undergraduate career I gravitated more towards cellular biology and physiology, which are areas I am going to explore during my first year of graduate school.
I am currently rotating in the laboratory of Dr. Prachee Avashti in the Anatomy and Cell Biology department at KUMC, where they study the formation of cilia using the model organism Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. My short-term rotation project involves teasing apart phosphorylation-dependent actin dynamics in vivo.
After completion of the program, I aspire to teach at a small liberal arts undergraduate university where I hope to bring research opportunities that are otherwise not available.
